Yorkshire born Clare Teal has been able to sing in tune since the age of 3. Growing up in a Catholic family in Skipton she developed a fascination for jazz and jazz singers after listening to her father’s old 45’s. 'They were in this trunk and on novelty Sunday afternoons it would be carted down from the attic and then we'd get these amazing discs out and I was so excited by it. Lots of British dance bands; Harry Roy, Joe Loss. And I was a massive Geraldo fan - at six, what a geek!' Clare would sit and imitate these singers – as she says: “I’d listen and hone and imitate, listen and hone and imitate - a very useful thing in retrospect, but at the time probably a bit odd!'
