Bewitching
folk-pop songstress Sarah Blasko’s new single is an aching tale of two lovers
who must go separate ways. With a smoky jazz-club backing of a
funereally-paced Balearic drum, the acclaimed Australian laments the
agonising choice to let an unhappy lover leave her over desolate strings and
double-bass. “I never knew it would hurt like this to let someone go
against my wishes / All I can do is hope and pray that you’ll find your
way.” With naked lyrics exposing her fragile state, it is Blasko’s
inimitable vocal delivery that pours the emotion into the song – she is
both hushed and delicate and yet impassioned and heart-wrenching.
